About this book

Imam al-Bukhari is best known for his Sahih, the most authentic collection of hadith. But he also compiled al-Adab al-Mufrad, a separate book devoted entirely to adab — manners, character and social conduct.

Its chapters cover kindness and obedience to parents, maintaining family ties, caring for orphans and neighbours, generosity, mercy to children and animals, visiting the sick, greeting and seeking permission to enter, gatherings and conversation, anger, humility, joking, names and many other everyday matters. Alongside the sayings of the Prophet ﷺ, it includes reports from the Companions showing how they lived these manners.

This English edition presents the narrations with translation, making it a practical handbook of Prophetic character for families and individuals.
