About this book

Shama'il Muhammadiyya was compiled by Imam at-Tirmidhi, author of one of the six great hadith collections. Rather than focusing on law, it gathers the narrations that describe the Prophet ﷺ himself.

The chapters describe his physical appearance — his face, hair, height and the seal of prophethood — his clothing, rings and sandals, how he ate and drank and what he liked, how he walked, sat and slept, his speech and laughter, his humour, his worship and night prayer, his humility, his character with family and companions, and finally his passing.

This edition presents over four hundred narrations in Arabic and English. Reading it has always been one of the most loved ways for Muslims to come to know the Prophet ﷺ.
